Dr Dianne Hayter, a Labour life peer since 2010, has held senior roles including Chair of the Labour Party, member of its National Executive Committee, General Secretary of the Fabian Society, and Chief Executive of the European Parliamentary Labour Party. She has also served on numerous consumer and regulatory bodies and held frontbench roles in the House of Lords.

Born in 1949, she studied at Durham University and lives in London with her husband, Professor David Caplin.
