Andy Slaughter has been Labour MP for Hammersmith since 2010, having first entered Parliament in 2005, and was elected Chair of the Justice Select Committee in 2024. 

A barrister specialising in criminal and housing law, he previously led Hammersmith and Fulham Council and served in several Labour frontbench roles, including Shadow Justice Minister, before resigning in 2016 over Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. 

Born in 1960, he studied law at the University of Exeter and has long been active in local government and the trade union movement.
